just thinking

i was reading that article below and i realized that i don't know my grandpa near as well as i should. i know that he is a great man and if i turn out to be just 1/10 of what he is then i will be proud. the little history that i know is this:

- he was a P.O.W. in WWII. the japanese held him captive and a bunch of other american workers. they were going to be executed but luckily for him america dropped the bomb and japan quit. he also lost part of his hearing because he was to close to a tank when it fired. i read and article that the japanese made me write to america. it says that he was treated good, got hot meals, and no hurt. we know now that was a big fat lie.
- he has always been there for his wife, kids, and grandkids. i can't remember a time in my life when grandpa didn't care and help. even to this day he will slip me gas money.
- he values hard work. up till about 80 yrs old he still cut his own grass. even after a knee replacement he wanted to cut it. he never sits back and watches. if i am up cleaning his gutters, he will be right there on the ground trying to help.
- he loves nebraska football. my grandma and grandpa even have a nebraska room. hmm...i am getting an idea....

like i said, i don't know a lot about grandpa but what i do know i cherish. i hope i get to learn more.
